Want to slim down fast for that beach vacation or high school reunion? While there are many things you can do to shed pounds, losing weight too quickly, like any sudden change to your body, can be dangerous. While fad diets, diet pills, and fasting may indeed induce rapid weight loss, these methods can cause you to lose muscle and may also injure your heart and other organs fairly quickly. The best solution? Don't go for an overnight miracle. Instead, follow these steps to lose fat rapidly, healthily, and sustainably.

Seek out alternatives to the unhealthy foods you've identified. You can simply reduce the amount of soda you drink or mayonnaise you put on your sandwiches, or you can substitute healthier choices. Drink water instead of soda, for example, or use mustard instead of mayo. Low-fat and low-calorie options are also available for most foods, and many of these are natural, (although some are made with strange chemicals), and tasty. Start trying to eat healthy in most meals:
    • Choose lean meats. Chicken and fish are both very low in fat (and certain fish like salmon, sardines, and fresh tuna are an excellent source of antioxidants, which are also beneficial to your health), so aim to replace some or all of the beef or pork in your diet with these foods.
    • Replace high-calorie side dishes with healthier alternatives. Many people get a ton of calories from side dishes such as macaroni and cheese, French fries, or potato salad. You can eat healthier and lose weight by replacing these with fresh vegetables and salads. Pre-made salads are practically effortless, and when accompanied by a reduced-calorie dressing or no dressing at all, they're weight-loss gold.
    • Start your days off right. A fattening breakfast of bacon and eggs or a pastry can be replaced with yogurt, oatmeal, high-fiber, low-sugar cereals; or fresh fruit for fruit smoothies. However, for those on a low carb diet bacon and eggs are a great combo for breakfast, since neither have carbs. But don't fall into the trap of skipping breakfast. Eating a healthy breakfast increases your rest metabolic rate earlier in the day, and reduces snacking before lunch.

Go over the list and decide which foods to cut out or reduce. Cutting calories is usually a lot easier than you might think. For example, that daily tall latte in the morning may pack 500 calories. Since a pound of flab (lost or gained) is roughly equivalent to 3,500 calories, replacing that rich beverage with black coffee can help you lose a pound a week. Other easy cuts include salad dressing (salad dressing is the number one source of fat in the average American woman's diet) soda pop, candy, and butter. Look at the nutritional information for the foods you eat, pay special attention to your intake of saturated fats and empty calories (high-sugar foods). You don't need to cut these things out entirely, but if you reduce your intake of high-fat, high-calorie foods you'll lose weight faster.

India on moon mission

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India will launch a locally built rocket for the country's first unmanned mission to the moon on Oct. 22, the head of the project said on Tuesday.

"If at all there is any delay, it will be because of the weather, otherwise I don't foresee any technical difficulties," M. Annadurai told Reuters.

The launch, earlier scheduled for April but delayed due to technical difficulties, has been given a window between Oct 20 and Oct 28 for takeoff from a southern town.

Six countries, including the United States, are directly involved in the project, which will cost an estimated 3.86 billion rupees ($80.8 million).

It aims to map a three-dimensional atlas of the moon through high-resolution remote sensing and map the surface's chemical and mineral composition.

EXTENSIVE FUNDING

Despite limited funding, India operates an extensive space programme consisting of launch vehicles, satellites and data-processing centres.

India plans to send an astronaut into space by 2014 and a manned mission to moon by 2020. As part of preparations for that, it launched four satellites on a single rocket for the first time in January 2007, including one that was brought back to earth.

India's space programme was launched as a scientific research effort, but has now begun to make money from commercial launches.

At least 16 Indian satellites currently orbit the earth, supporting telecommunications, TV broadcasting, earth observation, weather forecasting, remote education and healthcare.

India's constellation of seven earth-observation satellites is the largest of its kind in the world, but its space programme lags behind its Asian rival China, which in 2003 became only the third nation after the United States and the former Soviet Union to launch a man into space aboard its own rocket.

China celebrated the completion of the country's first spacewalk last month, hailed as a major victory by its leaders.

Determine your daily calorie intake . Losing weight is simply a matter of expending more calories than you take in, through exercise and your daily activities. To win the battle, it helps to know how many calories you are consuming in a day. Write down all the things you eat on a typical day. Carry a small notebook with you and write down every snack, every drink, and the contents of every meal. There are also great websites that you can use to keep track of calories, get recipes, and help achieve your goal. Don't forget to include the pats of butter or the spoonful of sugar in your coffee. It's best to do this for at least a couple weekdays and a weekend; it's even better if you can go a full week. Do an itemized calorie count. When possible, write down the number of calories in each thing you eat as you eat it. Keep in mind that the recommended serving size is often considerably smaller than the serving you actually eat. Look up the calorie count on the internet for foods that don't have calories listed on the container or for fast food meals. You don't have to be 100% accurate, but you do want a good estimate of the number of calories you're taking in. There is an idea that multiplying your own weight by ten will produce a rough estimate of the number of calories you need to eat per day to maintain your weight. This is NOT true, you may wind up grossly under (or perhaps over) estimating the number of calories you should be eating. Use a scientific or health website to determine the number of calories you should eat a day or consult your doctor. Everyone has different metabolisms and there is no blanket rule that covers everyone's recommended calorie intake. Reducing 500 calories per day from the calories you eat to maintain your weight can help you lose a pound of fat per week.

Shrimp fried rice~ taste it na

Shrimp fried rice:
A Chinese flavor, just see how to prepare it..


Run the frozen shrimp under warm running water, pat dry with paper towels, shell and devein. Chop into small pieces. Add the marinade ingredients and marinate for 15 minutes.
Dice the ham, onion, and green onion.
Beat the eggs lightly with chopsticks, add a dash of salt, and mix.* Set aside.
Heat the wok and then add 1 tablespoon oil. When oil is ready, pour 1/2 of the egg mixture into the wok and cook over medium heat, turning over once. Cook the other half the same way. Cut the egg into thin strips, and save for later.
Add 2 tablespoons oil, or as needed. When oil is hot, stir fry the onion and shrimp on high heat for a few moments, remove and set aside. Do the same for the green peas, and then the diced ham.
Add 1 - 2 tablespoons oil, turn the heat down to medium and stir-fry the rice. Add a bit of soy and oyster sauce if desired. Add the other ingredients except the egg and green onion and combine thoroughly. Serve the fried rice with the strips of egg on top and the green onion as garnish.**
*You can also add a bit of oyster sauce if desired
**Alternately, you can mix the green onion and egg in with the other ingredients.

Bruschetta

You will need 4 six-inch wide slices of Tuscan bread. Toast them, over the coals if possible (though a toaster will work fine if need be) gently rub them with a cut clove of garlic (you don’t want to overwhelm the oil), then drizzle them with good olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste, cut the slices in half, and serve. Serves 4.

There are lots of variations to bruschetta.

  • One of the tastiest:
    After rubbing the slices with the garlic, rub them with a very ripe cut tomato as well (or spread a thin layer of chopped tomatoes seasoned with basil, salt & pepper over the slices). Then sprinkle with olive oil and season. In addition to being a fine appetizer, this is a traditional merenda, or afternoon snack.
  • And another:
    Boil cannellini (white) beans, use a slotted spoon to spoon them over the toasted bread, season the bruschetta with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and serve. In my experience, people ask for seconds and thirds of this variation.

Finally, don't forget, if you are having a barbacue, that bruschetta is an excellent way to begin.

Prepare a big bowl of fresh tasty vegetables, cut into strips or pieces (whatever you prefer that doesn't sag, e.g. peppers, cauliflower, artichokes, celery, carrots, etc).

Set cruets of olive oil and vinegar on the table, along with salt & pepper. Give your diners small bowls in which to mix up a sauce with the olive oil and vinegar, seasoning to taste. They then dip their veggies in their sauce and eat.

You could also have other elements handy (mustard, whatnot) for those who want to make richer dipping sauces.

A wine? White, perhaps a Trebbiano Toscano, or a Vernaccia di San Gimignano.

sushi- taste it

Sushi is usually defined as a Japanese food that consists of vinegared rice with a filling or topping added to it. While sushi to many people is known for its raw fish, many types of sushi do not contain fish at all. In fact, if you are a vegetarian, you can create many varieties of sushi with just vegetables.

Types of Sushi

Nigri-sushi – Nigri-sushi is perhaps the most common sushi around. It is usually formed with the hand and comes in rectangular or oval shapes. This type of sushi includes rice and a neta. Neta means topping. Nigri-sushi may also contain wasabi. Wasabi is made from Japanese horseradish and can be very strong. It can taste very hot, but to some, it adds excitement to the sushi. Wasabi is usually placed between the rice and the topping. In addition another ingredient may be present – nori. Nori is green seaweed that holds the topping to the rice. While seaweed might not sound appetizing, it is quite good.

Maki-sushi- This is another popular form of sushi. Maki-sushi is cylindrical in shape and is generally wrapped in nori. In order to roll the Maki-sushi into cylindrical shapes, a bamboo mat is used. There are two types of maki-sushi – thin rolled and fat rolled. Thin rolled (hosomaki) includes one to two fillings. Fat rolled (futomaki) contains three or more.

Temaki-sushi- This type of sushi is very similar to Maki-sushi, however the ingredients are usually more intense. Temaki-sushi is usually shaped in cylindrical forms and is sometimes referred to as a Japanese taco.

How to build a rocket???

Rocket Power

This rocket works by building up pressure in a small film canister. When the pressure reaches its highest point, the canister will pop open and send the rocket flying into the air. The gasses built up inside of it will help propel the rocket as it takes off – much like a real rocket.

Materials

You will need many materials for a proper rocket, but despite the seemingly difficult instructions, building your rocket will be very worthwhile once you see it in flight. First, you will need several sheets of computer paper to create the rocket's shape. You will also need a plastic 35-mm film canister, some packing tape (clear), scissors, Alka-Seltzer tablets, paper towels, and water. You can add other materials too if you want to make your rocket look cooler – just make sure that you keep the weight down for the best flight possible (just like a real rocket).

Shaping Your Rocket

Start by creating the shape of your rocket with the paper. Fold the paper in half the long way. Use one half of the paper as the body of your rocket and divide the other half of the paper in half the short way (you should have a half of your paper and two quarters). Use one of the quarters of your paper for the fins and the other quarter for the nose cone. Fold your fin quarter in half and then fold it diagonally. You should have created four triangles in your folds. Cut along each of the fold lines to get four fins. For the nose cone, sketch out a circle and cut around it. Then mark the center of the circle and draw two lines out from it at a right angle, much as if you are dividing the circle like a pie. Cut out a quarter of the circle.

Putting it all Together

Now take the long piece of paper you saved and tape it to the film canister so that the canister hangs down slightly from the long edge of the paper. Make sure that the cap part of the canister is easy to get to. Roll the paper around the canister to make the main body of the rocket look just like the rockets you have seen on television. Now tape the fins onto the rocket and roll the circular nose cone into a cone, taping the edges together so it looks like a cone. Tape your nose cone to the top of the rocket.

Blast Off!

You are all set to blast your rocket off. Turn the rocket over and take off the lid of the film canister. Fill the canister about a third with water. From here on you will have to work quickly for a great blastoff, so read these instructions before you actually do anything else. Drop one of the Alka-Seltzer pills into the canister and snap the lid on tight. Let the rocket stand up straight before you wait for it to take off.

Bigger and Better Rocket Ideas

That rocket was pretty cool – but what if you want a bigger blast? You can use other materials and bigger canisters to make rockets that are more powerful. Consider using a larger film canister or even a bottle with a small plug in it. There are other combinations of reactants that will work great too. Try mixing a soda-based drink like Pepsi or Coke with Mentos candy for a very big explosion that is sure to impress your friends.
